Caveat Ludor!

I woke up this morning with an unexpected hankering to reread the Spellsinger novels by Alan Dean Foster. And then to write up the setting in EZFudge. Take note, people: Once you start down the tabletop roleplaying road, you’ll never enjoy serial fiction the same way again. There will always be a part of your brain reckoning what game system to use, pondering how to stat up a fictional varmint, taking notes on the travel time and distance between one place and another. Even after you’ve “given up” gaming, as I (supposedly) have.

EZFudge Final Frontier Updated

Hard on the heels of the previous post, I’ve made what I think will be the final changes to the EZFudge Final Frontier package. First, I’ve added a cover-sheet/table of contents, so you’ll know what this hodge-podge of pages is all about. Second, I’ve reorganized the hodge-podge of pages so that the reading material is all at the front, and the reference and form material is all at the back. Last but far from least, I threw in a one-page quick-start guide to the character creation rules.

This game now has just about everything I can think of that it needs. 40 pages, 1.7 MB of PDF goodness, still found on the Game Time page. Please enjoy, and let me know how it does for you.

What I Want in a Star Trek Game

After a lot of reflecting, some of it unexpected, I’ve come to certain understandings about me and Star Trek games.

EZFudge Final Frontier

Yup, I’m calling it finished and putting it up to the world. Find it on the Game Time page.

The Game Content is Back

Thanks to a gentle nudge from Bizarro Joe, I’ve finally sat down and brought all the links for the Game Time page online. Well, almost all. There’s still one waiting for content. Maybe. If I ever get any feedback from my EZFudge Final Frontier readers.

Dice Knowing You

Reminiscing about The Old Days has given me a Geek Urge to replace my current Chessex (round-edged European) dice with nice sharp-edged GameScience dice, like I had when I was beginning to play.

Wait, it gets even geekier: I’m thinking of omitting the 10-siders entirely, and using 20-siders numbered 0-9 twice, as used at the dawn of the hobby. Thus I can surround myself with only proper platonic dice. I’m even thinking about eight-siders numbered 1-4 twice, thus getting those ridiculously sharp and pointy d4s out of the box.

Yes, it’s totally ridiculous, and the urge is finally winding down. I seem to finally be grown up enough to recognize that spending $$$ on a pointless whim isn’t always a good thing. And what I’ll probably do in real life is buy a pair of the old-fashioned 20-siders to put in my Star Fleet Battle Manual kit, and retire My First Die to a place of honor.

Wow!

The auctions have gone quite satisfactorily, including yesterday’s Marvel/SAGA set that went at the BuyItNow price inside of 24 minutes. Thanks, bidder/buyer!

There’s only one potential lot left now: The Last Unicorn iteration for the Original Series. Given how “retro” I feel lately, I’m thinking these items are dispensable. Probably won’t bring much, but That’s just Life.

Friends Get First Dibs

Friends Get First Dibs

Yup, if you’ve come here from Facebook or just read my blog anyway, you get to pick first amongst the stuff I’m getting rid of. ‘Cause if there’s one thing better than knowing a game went to a loving home, it’s knowing a game went to a friend’s loving home.

Post rules:

If you’re interested in something, make me an offer. ONE offer. E-mail it to nvdaydreamer (at) gmail (dot) com. (You can put multiple offers in a single e-mail.) Highest offer in the week takes it. Domestic Buyer pays actual Priority Mail shipping cost; International pays actual Air Parcel Post shipping cost. Serious offers only , please… “I’ll buy it for a nickel!” isn’t really funny to me.

Books are “like-new” unless otherwise indicated.

The Grand Unified Theory of Obsession

When I was small, someone noted my fine motor skills were not all that sharp and told my mother to get me a hobby. She enrolled me in a “plastic model of the month” club — the Revell Young Modelers Club. (There apparently was a Master Modelers Club, too, but I never got that far.) I don’t know if it did much for my coordination, but it wasn’t bad for my imagination … particularly since one of the models I got early on was the Apollo 11 “Tranquility Base” diorama. I already had the space bug very badly, so that model (and a later model of the Mercury capsule) were cherished items long after they’d had far too many dings and knocks to be spaceworthy.

The quality of plastic models has largely gone downhill since the 80s, and these days resin models are plentiful, if not always cheap. But they still require assembly, finishing, painting, decaling … stuff I still don’t have a lot of patience or coordination for.
